Landscape Painting Workshop with Caroline Marsland

Every Monday afternoon 2-5pm | £90 for 6 weeks | 7th Nov – 12th Dec 2016
A six week workshop to guide you through the process of landscape painting focusing on composition, tone, simplification, colour mixing and mood. Included will be instruction on skies, water, fields, trees, cityscapes and more. Caroline will be demonstrating different techniques in acrylic to help you make informed decisions when creating your own dramatic landscape paintings.
YOU WILL NEED
Acrylics although students are welcome to bring oils or watercolour if preferred, palette, sketch book or sketching paper, pencils, painting surface, brushes, good quality landscape photographs

LANDSCAPE WORKSHOP 2016 AGENDA
WEEK 1
Value and composition – This week we will be looking at how to use thumbnails to work out composition and tonal values. Themes covered will be focal points, how to use tone in composition, simplifying and arranging your points of interest. Students will be painting a landscape in black and white or sepia.
WEEK 2
Big brush impressionism -This week students will be painting a scene based capturing the essence of their landscape photograph without worrying about details, The aim will be to capture the essence of the scene. Also includes colour mixing of greens.
WEEK 3
Fields and trees – This week will focus on how to achieve distance within the landscape and how detailed to make your fields and trees in a countryside scene. Tuition on the use of warm/cool colours.
WEEK 4
Skies – Glazing, clouds, storms and sunsets. Lovely!
Week 5
Water – Looking at lakes and rivers we will be exploring reflections, using flat brushes with a variety of techniques to create ripples and distortions. Caroline will be demonstrating how to create surface shine and plants over reflected water.
WEEK 6
Cityscapes – This week covers buildings and streets. How to simplify and avoid large areas of concrete. How to build up shapes within the cityscape and then move on to finer details.

Each week will include information hand-outs, colour mixing advice and advice on drawing.
